Google has released the developer preview for the next version of its operating system (OS), Android O (which will eventually get a sweet-themed name to follow Lollipop, Marshmallow and Nougat).
Google has released a test version of the new operating system Android O. The firmware is designed for developers and is available on a limited number of devices.
The company has identified the main advantages of Android O. The system has acquired new restrictions for applications that run in the background, which helps to optimize the operation of the device. Applications in the background can no longer intensively consume Internet traffic and data from GPS.
From external changes in the system, special badges for icons appeared, which show the number of notifications from this application. Similar badges are in iOS and some Android launchers. The icons themselves became adaptive and automatically adjusted to the general appearance of the system.
Changes have appeared in the multitasking system. Now for some applications it’s possible to run in picture-in-picture mode. Thus, for example, a video player can be launched by a separate mini-window on top of the entire screen with the ability to move this window and scale it.
The application “Settings”, the notification curtain, the status bar and many other elements of the system were processed. The firmware is available for Nexus 5X, Nexus 6P, Nexus Player, Google Pixel, Pixel XL and Pixel C. It can also be launched via the official Android emulator.
