1-1, Manchester City – Liverpool – an incredible match

Manchester City’s manager, Pep Guardiola said he is very happy with his team’s performance in the 1-1 draw with Liverpool. ‘They always fight until the last moment,’ he said.

“I am so proud,” he said. “This is one of the most special days of my life.”

The result comes right after being out of Champions League, after the team’s loss against Monaco. The outcome is even more surprising according to Guardiola, since unlike Liverpool, who had the whole week to prepare, City’s players had only a few days.
“Liverpool had all week to prepare and they always fight until the last moment.”
“That is why I am so happy. More than ever I am willing to help the club take the next step forward over the next years if they want to stay with me.”
First, James Milner put Liverpool ahead, six minutes after the break. Afterwards, Sergio Aguero scored against Liverpool, 69 minutes after the beginning of the match. Later on, both sides had numerous opportunities to secure a vital win, but did not succeed in doing so.

Aguero could have scored again in the final minute, when he had a clear chance eight yards out, but he missed his shot.

City players David Silva and Fernandinho wasted good opportunities as well, as did Liverpool’s Adam Lallana, who failed to tap Firmino’s pass into an empty net.

Guardiola said he admires a lot his defender, John Stones:
“John Stones has more personality than anyone in this room.”
“I am delighted to have him. He has been under pressure. The people criticise him. But it is not easy to play central defence with this manager. I don’t want long balls and passes down the channel. I want him 40 metres back to build up the play.”
Liverpool’s manager, Jurgen Klopp took sides with his player, Adam Lallana saying his performance was amazing.
“Adam is one of the best technical players I ever worked with.”
“These things can happen. He said sorry afterwards. I said why? His performance was outstanding.”
After the game, Manchester City is two points behind second-placed Tottenham, while Liverpool is a point further back in fourth.
Klopp declared: “We are still in a battle and our next game is not only a derby, it is a really important game. There is one outstanding side this year. All the rest must fight with everything they have until the end of season.”
The match was really important for Manchester City, considering their recent encounter with Monaco. Further on, City will face Arsenal and later on Chelsea.
Similarly, Liverpool has an important match as well, against Everton.
